HOT & COLD THERAPY
If I were allowed to teach a Student only one system of Physical Healing that would accomplish the greatest amount of good for any individual, that system would be Hot & Cold Therapy. That’s a heavy statement, but I mean every word of it. Hot & Cold Therapy includes, Hot & Cold Showers, Ice Water Dips, Hot Baths, Natural Hot Springs, Sun Bathing, Swimming, Hot Tubs, Saunas, Rolling in Snow, Hot Water Bottles, Heating Pads, Ice Packs, Hot Packs, Steam Baths, and all Hydrotherapy.
Why Hot & Cold??? Because nothing moves Blood, Lymph, and other fluids in the body like alternating Hot & Cold. Think about it. When you run cold water on your arm, you can visibly see the skin turn white as the blood goes deep and away from the area. Similarly, when you run hot water on that same spot, you immediately notice the skin turn red as the blood comes rushing back in. This can be very dramatic.
This increased movement of Blood, gets nourishment and vital nutrients into a diseased area. It is also essential in the removal of toxins and poisons from those areas.
Here is another interesting and basic fact having to do with Saunas and Hot Baths. For every degree the temperature of the body is artificially raised, the speed of the white blood cells is doubled. This means, that if a false fever of 105° is created in a sauna, the speed of the white blood cells is now 128 times faster than normal. It is the white blood cells that knock off the bad guys (toxins, bacteria, infections, etc.). This is extremely beneficial.
A very important question is:
“Why do bodies create fevers in the first place?”
Answer:
“It is a defense mechanism of the body designed to handle foreign particles, destructive intruders and damaging toxins”.
So, why in the world would anyone try to bring a fever down and fight against this wondrous natural defense of the body. The correct way to handle any cold, flu, or fever where the body’s temperature has risen, is to get the person into a Hot Bath or Sauna for at least a half an hour and get the temperature up even higher. Now before some Medico starts screaming about brain damage, let me point out immediately that the ONLY time a person ever suffers any brain injury from a high fever is when dehydration is present. Drinking 4 to 6 cups of herbal tea (Ginger or Yarrow are best) made with distilled water, is vital when using Hot & Cold this way.
